President of the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam since 2010 until now
Pg Datin Paduka Hjh Mariam was elected as President of The Council of Women of Brunei in 2010 and continues to serve in this role to date. She works with relentless passion to support issues concerning the welfare of both women and children.
In April 2013, as Leader and Chairperson of CWBD she organised and co-ordinated the 1st ASEAN Civil Society Conference/ASEAN People’s Forum (ACSC/APF) which was held in Brunei.
Pg Datin Hj Mariam has also been actively involved in regional meetings. In November 2013, she led the 14 member delegation of the CWBD to a three-day goodwill and working visit to Vietnam to meet the Vietnam Women’s Union. In addition to this, she has organised ASEAN Women’s Day; seminars and workshops including the “Training Workshop Addressing Violence Against Women”; and also the “Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and Children.”
In her role as President of the CWBD Pg Datin Hjh Mariam has also led a team of 120 people at the National Day Celebration; has been involved with organising the Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday celebrations and with the Promotion of Health and the Council of Eradication of Tobacco.
