Interview with Burger King

Why did you choose the town of Bandar Seri Begawan as the location for your first outlet?
Bandar Town area for our first outlet was a no-brainer. First of all, the outlet allowed us to be creative with the interior design (Credit to Luxe Development and Burger King Asia Pacific) because of its high ceilings and two-level concept. We knew it would be easy for it to look good. But of course that was not the main reason. This area has lots of offices and for corporate workers, we know that sometimes it’s important to grab lunch quickly. Burgers and fries fulfill that need easily, and of course, what better way to have a quick lunch than having BK’s signature framegrilled patties.

How’s business going so far?
Business is decent, we like what we are seeing so far, and we hope that Burger King in the heart of the capital on Jalan Sultan can help bring some life back into the area. Bandar has been relatively quiet, and what we see in addition to the usual patrons, are plenty of tourists stopping by for burgers to take a break from their explorations.

Tell us about the company culture of BK.
In BK Brunei, we want our staff to have fun and work happily. Being satisfied with your job and being rewarded for what you do makes you perform better. In return, this will affect customers. We’ve had so much feedback from customers telling us that BK has given them the best service in town, and that’s something to be proud of.

What has been Brunei’s favorite BK Burger?
Brunei’s favorite BK Burger is by far the Mushroom Swiss. However, the signature Whopper is catching up in terms of popularity. My guess is because of the Whopper’s size and there are really so many different vegetables in this burger that give it numerous layers of taste.

What can we expect from BK in the next 3 years.
Our main focus now is quality. During the first month of opening, we were aware of customer’s complaints. Whatever is not good, we will rectify and we hope that they understand that during extremely busy times it is challenging for our staff. We are all human, the crew sometimes make mistakes and that is something we can easily admit to. Now that the traffic has stabilised, we are extremely confident that customers won’t be disappointed in the taste of our products, because at BK, It Just Tastes Better.

We will also be focusing on opening two of our new outlets this year, the second being at the Brunei International Airport’s Arrival Hall and the third in the Belait District. Over the next two years, we want to continue to develop our menu, bringing in different dimensions to our offerings such as breakfast and bean to cup coffee, at the same time, expanding to meet our customer’s expectations.
