Throughout her career Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Hayati has been a pathbreaker and trailblazer. She qualified as a BarristerAt-Law of Lincoln’s Inn and was the first Brunei Malay woman to be called to the English Bar. In 2001 she was the first woman to be appointed as a High Court Judge of the Supreme Court and in 2009 she was again the first woman to be appointed as Attorney General, a post which was elevated to a Ministerial rank on May 29, 2010.
Not only does Datin Hjh Hayati have a wealth of knowledge and experience in the legal field but she is also a member of various university and education committees. Her expertise in this field has seen her present numerous papers nationally, regionally and internationally on issues affecting women and youth.
Datin Hjh Hayati has received various Awards of recognition including the ‘Salute to Brunei Women Achievers Award’ given by Asia Inc Forum in 2008 and “hopes to be an inspiration to the next generation of women leaders”.
