In this segment we recognise and pay tribute to the companies that are going beyond the call of duty to make important contributions to our community. In doing so, we hope that in the future more companies will be encouraged to step up and support company initiatives.
Most people are probably only aware that NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd sells Toyota & Lexus and has been the automotive market leader for as long as anyone can remember.
But what many people may not know is that among NBT’s many CSR projects & initiatives, is Projek Ikan Pusu (sponsored since 2001), which has been producing quality players for the National Teams of this football-loving nation.
Another fact that is not widely known is that by hosting 19 Toyota Classics (1990 – 2013), NBT has donated more than BND 2,000,000 (the entire ticket sales proceeds) to deserving local charities. That notwithstanding, it is NBT’s torchbearer role in championing Environment Protection that perhaps ranks highest among the company’s many ‘right things’ and ‘things done right’ over the last 47 years of its history.
Self-styled ‘Friends of the Earth’ since 2006, NBT’s Service Centres are today world class by green standards: ISO 14001 (Environment Management System) certified – this means that we have squeaky clean floors; we take responsibility for the proper disposal of our used motor oil & hazardous wastes and nothing but clean water runs through our drains.
According to Mr. Ninan Chacko, NBT Managing Director, “Being a progressive, ethical and responsible 21st Century company, we believe in looking beyond the dollars & ‘sense’ to make available (and to support) a comprehensive range of fuel-saving hybrids, thereby enabling everyone to chip in to reduce Brunei’s carbon footprint,” He further added that “NBT is very determined to preserve the environment because we fully understand that every green effort counts. Petrol- & diesel-powered vehicles are simply not sustainable in the long run,” The management and staff at NBT are 100% commited to supporting a greener future in Brunei.
